Setting
Made in Abyss unfolds within a colossal and deeply enigmatic chasm known simply as the Abyss. This immense geological formation is a world unto itself, teeming with the forgotten relics of lost civilizations, strange and wondrous flora, and formidable, often deadly, creatures. The Abyss is a magnet for intrepid treasure hunters, known as Cave Raiders, who are drawn by the allure of uncovering its profound secrets and recovering invaluable artifacts scattered throughout its layers. The town of Orth perches on the rim of this vast pit, functioning as the primary hub and launching point for these ambitious explorers. The deeper one ventures into the Abyss, the more treacherous the environment becomes, presenting increasingly unique hazards and a mysterious phenomenon known as the Curse of the Abyss, which adversely affects anyone attempting to ascend from its depths.
Plot
The narrative centers on Riko, a spirited orphan girl who harbors a fervent dream of achieving the rank of White Whistle, a highly esteemed designation among Cave Raiders, mirroring the legacy of her own mother. One fateful day, while exploring the uppermost layer of the Abyss, Riko discovers a peculiar boy named Reg. He is a mysterious being, seemingly part human and part robot, with no recollection of his past but possessing extraordinary abilities. Compelled by Riko’s adventurous spirit and a shared sense of purpose, they decide to embark on a perilous journey into the very depths of the Abyss. Riko is driven by her unwavering desire to find her mother, who is rumored to be waiting at the deepest point of the chasm. As they descend, their expedition is fraught with danger; they face relentless challenges, encounter a myriad of bizarre and formidable creatures, and gradually uncover the profound mysteries that lie hidden within the enigmatic Abyss.
Main Characters
Riko: An adventurous and remarkably determined orphan girl with aspirations of becoming a legendary White Whistle, following in her mother’s footsteps.
