Plot Summary

No Game No Life: Zero transports viewers back 6,000 years before the events of the original series, immersing them in the desolate era known as Disboard’s Great Calamity. This period was defined by a catastrophic, all-consuming war among the sixteen sentient races vying for dominance in a world shattered by conflict. The narrative focuses on Riku, the pragmatic and determined leader of Imanity, the last surviving human colony. Riku grapples with the grim reality of his people’s precarious existence, constantly seeking ways to navigate a world where survival is a daily struggle against overwhelming odds.

It is amidst this backdrop of despair that Riku encounters Schwi, an Ex-Machina – a race of beings embodying logic and devoid of emotion. Schwi, however, is an anomaly; she has been ostracized by her own kind for her burgeoning curiosity and her unconventional desire to understand the complexities of the human heart, a concept utterly alien to her programmed existence. Recognizing a potential ally in this unique Ex-Machina, Riku proposes a risky alliance. Their shared goal is audacious: to strategically manipulate the other, more powerful races into engaging in a grand game of war amongst themselves, thereby diverting attention and resources away from the vulnerable humans and ultimately saving Imanity from the brink of extinction. Their journey is fraught with peril, demanding not only strategic brilliance in a series of high-stakes games but also navigating profound emotional challenges as their relationship deepens, blurring the lines between logic and feeling. This climactic gambit ultimately leads to a world-altering confrontation that shapes the very foundation of the world viewers know from the original series.
